Rising 6th Grade Orientations on Mar. 23

There will be a rising 6th grade student visitation on Tuesday, March 23 from 10:00 – 1:00 at WMS.  Students will be introduced to the 6th grade classrooms, teachers, and course options.  Also, current WMS students will be on hand to give tours of the building.
In addition, there will be a brief orientation on the scheduling process for parents of our rising 6th grade students on Tuesday, March 23 at 7 PM in the WMS Auditorium.  Following this orientation, parents will be dismissed to the cafeteria to complete the scheduling process.  Space still exists in the Same Gender program on a first-come, first-placed basis.  We will also provide information on this program for those interested.
When making course selections, 6th graders will have Music and PE every other day, while Exploratory Arts meet daily.  There are five exploratory arts options and they will be rotated throughout the year:  Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS), Intro to Technology, Make It Your Business, Visual Arts, and Theatre Arts.  Students will have an opportunity to select four choices in rank order, with their #1 choice guaranteed and all efforts will be made to provide their remaining choices.  Music options include beginning band, chorus, advanced orchestra (for those who had orchestra in grade 5), and beginning orchestra.  If your child will be unable to attend the orientation, please discuss these options in advance, so you are prepared to choose their electives.

Seminole Pioneers Visit the White House
On March 18, 2010, the Seminole Pioneers went on a field trip to the White House and the Lincoln Memorial. Students were able to tour the grounds of the White House, and several rooms inside. They also were able to ask questions of the White House staff. Along with the beautiful weather and the chance to see these national treasures, the students and adults enjoyed each other's company. In its 2nd year, the Seminole Pioneers continue to grow as a strong organization at Woodbridge Middle School.

School Fusion Parent Registration
This year a new process has been implemented to centralize the PWCS schools’ online system allowing parents to have one user account for their school Web site log in and the Edulink Intouch log in. To obtain your user account follow the steps below:

All parents must obtain an authorization letter in person at your child’s school in order to log in to your school’s Web site or to log in to Edulink Intouch.  This year, there is a new process to log into Edulink Intouch to view student grades or emergency information. Follow the steps below:
•    Stop by the main office during normal operating hours, and you will receive a printed authorization letter which will have a student “passcode” that you will need when you register on your school’s Web site. Bring a photo ID. If you have children in more than one school, please go to each school in person.

•    After receiving the letter, go to one of your children’s school Web sites and register by clicking on the left button “New User Registration.”  You only have to register once at one school Web site, even if you have children at more than one school.

•    Parents who are also PWCS school staff members do not have to register as a “New User” on SchoolFusion. They will simply log on to their school Web site as usual, click on “My Family” and add the student passcodes on that menu.

•    Fill out the online registration form and enter your student’s ID number and “passcode” for each of your children in PWCS schools. If you have children in more than one school, you can enter all children’s passcodes from one Web site. Also, you can add more children at a later time by clicking on your “My family” icon after logging into a school Web site.

•    You can use the same log in user name and password for all Web sites where your children attend school.

•    You can use the same school Web site log in and password to log into Edulink Intouch as well.

After you have registered as a “New User” on the Web site, you will be able to log in to Edulink Intouch (also a button on the left of your school’s Web site) and view your student’s information. However please wait 48 hours before logging into Edulink Intouch since there is a time delay to transfer login information to the Intouch system.

Your Edulink Intouch login user name and password will be the same as your school Web site log in.

For more information, read the School Fusion FAQs.

Same Gender Classes

Woodbridge Middle School is proud to offer same gender classes.  Sixth, seventh and eighth grade students have the option of same gender classes for science, social studies, math, and language arts.  Parents are given the opportunity to opt students in as a part of the standard class selection form.   Students are enrolled by selecting Same Gender classes when making course selections.  In addition, parents have the option of transferring their son/daughter in from other schools, as long as they are able to provide transportation both to and from school.

For information feel free to e-mail Skyles Calhoun,
WMS principal, at calhousa@pwcs.edu.  Research has shown that there are tremendous differences in how boys and girls learn. Teachers who are trained to teach the way boys and girls learn best can increase the rate of academic achievement.  Our staff has been trained by one of the leading experts in the field, Dr. Leonard Sax, author of Why Gender Matters:  What Parents and Teachers Need to Know about the Emerging Science of Sex Differences

For further information about this fascinating research, you may wish to visit www.singlesexschools.org.  This website is hosted by the National Association for Single Sex Public Education (NASSPE).  Dr. Sax is the founder of this organization.
