Don't Miss the Chance to Tell PWCS What You Think
How do you rate your child’s school and the education programs in our county? The Prince William County School Board wants to know. All parents or guardians of students enrolled in Prince William County Public Schools were mailed a survey in English or Spanish on January 13 to measure parent satisfaction and determine how well the School Division is meeting the instructional needs of students. The February 3 deadline for returning the survey is approaching fast. Don’t miss this opportunity.
Parents with children enrolled in more than one school, received a survey for each school. Parents of PWCS students who did not receive a survey or misplaced the one that was mailed, can contact the Office of Program Evaluation at 703.791.7277 for a replacement. Thank you for taking the time to provide your valuable input.

Single Gender Applications for the 2012-13 School Year
Applications are now being accepted for the 2012-2013 school year.  Parents interested in enrolling their son/daughter in the same gender program for next school year should fill out and submit the online application.  Please direct any questions to the Registrar Debbie Venus at 703-494-3181.

Single Gender Program
Woodbridge Middle School is proud to offer same gender classes.  Sixth, seventh and eighth grade students have the option of same gender classes for science, social studies, math, and language arts.  Parents are given the opportunity to opt students in as a part of the standard class selection form.   Students are enrolled by selecting Same Gender classes when making course selections.  In addition, parents have the option of transferring their son/daughter in from other schools, as long as they are able to provide transportation both to and from school.

For information feel free to e-mail Skyles Calhoun,
WMS principal, at calhousa@pwcs.edu.  Research has shown that there are tremendous differences in how boys and girls learn. Teachers who are trained to teach the way boys and girls learn best can increase the rate of academic achievement.  Our staff has been trained by one of the leading experts in the field, Dr. Leonard Sax, author of Why Gender Matters:  What Parents and Teachers Need to Know about the Emerging Science of Sex Differences

For further information about this fascinating research, you may wish to visit www.singlesexschools.org.  This website is hosted by the National Association for Single Sex Public Education (NASSPE).  Dr. Sax is the founder of this organization.

Literacy Open House
WMS is hosting a Literacy Open House Feb. 15th from 6:30 - 7:30.  The evening will start with a welcome in the auditorium, followed by a short presentation of student readings and a video. After the presentation the school will be open for parents and students to walk around and view student work, projects, displays, etc.  Please mark your calendars and come enjoy an evening of literacy!

Riding the School Bus is a Privilege
Riding the School Bus is a privilege offered by Prince William County Schools, not a requirement of the school division. Disciplinary infractions violating PWCS Code of Behavior may include a loss of the privilege of bus transportation until the parent, bus driver, and school principal can arrive at an understanding which will correct the problem. Parents will be responsible for the transportation of students who have lost school bus transportation privileges.
